ACERE denounces effect of blockade on Cuba’s energy crisis

Washington, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The magnitude of the economic crisis in Cuba is the undeniable result of harsh extraterritorial sanctions imposed by the United States and more than six decades of the US blockade, ACERE coalition denounced on Monday.

The Alliance for Cuba Engagement and Respect (ACERE) launched a request for assistance to US President Joe Biden in solidarity with the Cuban people amid an “unprecedented energy crisis.”

In its request, the group affirmed that the shortage of fuel and spare parts for maintaining and repairing the thermoelectric plants are consequences of the US policy of maximum pressure.

Those policies, it underscored, were adopted by former US President Donald Trump’s administration (2017-2021) “and largely continued by the Biden administration.”

The group, which advocates a rapprochement between the two countries and the lifting of the unilateral economic siege, also pointed out that “the inclusion of Cuba in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list not only stifles imports but also complicates international financial transactions.”

Such coercive measure also hinders “the contracting of cargo ships to obtain the fuel, spare parts, technology, and equipment required by the energy system,” he stressed.
