According to a statement issued by the Burkinabe Government Information Service, several attempts to destabilize institutions carried out by suspects residing in neighboring countries, who could have had the support of foreign powers, have been dismantled in the last weeks.
The document adds that in the period from September 4 to October 4, 2024, security forces arrested 358 persons for acts of hostile behavior and espionage of a terrorist nature throughout the national territory.
Recently, UN Secretary General António Guterres condemned the terrorist attack against the city of Barsalogho, in Burkina Faso, carried out last August 24, which resulted in at least 200 deaths and another hundred wounded.
A statement released by its spokesman demanded the accountability of those responsible, belonging to the Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin (Jnim) group, linked to Al Qaeda.
Based on press reports, the terrorist group occupies large areas in the north of the country.
Like other organizations, JNIM got into Burkina Faso from neighboring Mali, and its operations further aggravate the security crisis that triggered two military coups during 2022.
