South Africa and Namibia support Cuba and Venezuela

Pretoria, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) South Africa and Namibia have voiced their solidarity with the peoples of Cuba and Venezuela, during a ministerial meeting of the political, diplomatic and legal committee of the binational Commission, the South African Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.

During the event, held in Swakopmund, Namibia, on October 14 and 15, and headed by the Foreign Ministers of Namibia, Peya Mushelenga; and South Africa, Ronald Ozzy Lamola, both parties expressed their support for the two Latin American nations, which are facing economic difficulties deriving from unilateral sanctions.

The two countries referred particularly to the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba, and called for an end to this policy that the Government of the United States has implemented for more than 60 years.

The ministerial meeting also condemned Israel’s bombing of Lebanon as a serious violation of sovereignty and international humanitarian law, and called on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to uphold international law further.

The two countries also demanded the immediate and unconditional removal of illegal sanctions against Zimbabwe, which affect the socioeconomic development of that country and the Southern African region negatively.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the situation in Western Sahara and welcomed the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of 4 October 2024, according to which the European Commission violated the right to self-determination of that people.
