The Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman Randhir Jaiswal, responded to questions from the press regarding the statement made yesterday by the head of the Canadian government before a commission of inquiry in Ottawa, in which he reiterated accusations of New Delhi’s alleged interference in his country.
Jaiswal pointed out that what happened at the commission only confirms what Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration has consistently complained about, namely the lack of evidence presented by Canada to support the serious allegations against India and its diplomats.
Amid the further breakdown in relations between the two countries, India on Tuesday notified the expulsion of six Canadian diplomats, including Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross.
The Ottawa representatives are to leave the South Asian nation by next Saturday, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The move followed the Indian government’s decision to withdraw diplomatic personnel in Canada due to an atmosphere of violence fomented by Trudeau government actions that compromised their security, according to an earlier Foreign Ministry statement.
