The two-day work agenda includes coordination with different organizations and other neighboring countries such as El Salvador, said the Secretary of Social Communication of the Head of State, Santiago Palomo, in a press conference.

Herrera’s visit, who maintains active communication with her counterparts, is part of the respective agreements with the International Organization for Migration.

On June the 26th, the first conference on the subject of human trafficking was held on the Trifiño Plan, which is a joint project between Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. It includes the integral, safe and sustainable development of the shared border region, and pursues the implementation of public policies and programs, focused on social and economic development, gender, youth and indigenous peoples, climate change and environmental management, and strengthening governance.

In addition to the Vice President, a delegation from El Salvador led by Félix Ulloa and the representative of the Honduran president, Doris Gutiérrez, participated.

The participants discussed and directed commitments between the three nations aimed to improve management capacities and address the challenges of migration in host or transit communities, as well as actions to open opportunities and address the prosecution of the crime of human trafficking in the region. They also described it as essential to ensure the protection of migrants’ rights.

The governments of Guatemala and Honduras held a high-level bilateral meeting earlier this month to deepen cooperation on environmental matters.
