According to the website of the institution, which prioritizes the defense of the sociocultural legacy of this Cuban urban center, the award was granted at the proposal of the National Council of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Cuba.

The acknowledgement, endorsed by the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urbanism (INOTU), “was conferred, taking into account the results of the management model based on habitat and the recognition within the model of citizen’s participation.”

The text adds that the OHCC is “an essential component of sustainability and development.”

On behalf of the institution, the award was received by María I. Carmenates Bringas and Ernesto Guzmán Lastre, director and specialist of the Master Plan and Management Sub-directorate of the OHCC.
