Those lawmakers oppose negotiations between Mondino and her British counterpart, David Lammy, on grounds they are a mere reissue of the Foradori-Duncan pact, by which the administration of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) allowed London to exploit natural resources in the disputed islands.
That agreement implied the lifting of Argentina’s administrative, legislative and judicial measures to protect its resources, and left aside local claims over that territory.
Through his profile in the social network X, Deputy Eduardo Toniolli stated that ‘since he took office, Mondino has served British interests in the South Atlantic”.
“And the straw that broke the camel’s back was the announcement of bilateral agreements with unacceptable concessions to the usurpers of our Falklands”, he lamented.
“The Mondino-Lammy agreement reprises the spirit of the Foradori-Duncan of 2016, allowing the UK to improve logistics and connectivity among the islands and the mainland, while giving them additional access to illegally exploit our fishing and hydrocarbon resources”, he added.
In his words, the minister “exceeds her authority, by executing functions proper to the legislative branch”.
“She signs international agreements without counting on Congress, thus violating Article 75, paragraph 22 of the Constitution”, Toniolli indicated.
