“For the first time in the history of the Dominican Republic our flag has flown on the highest peaks. I am very grateful, honored and humbly happy to be able to be the one to carry our beautiful tricolor to each of the seven summits”.
So said Herrera in a video on her Instagram account as she joyfully held the flag on the Carstensz Pyramid or Puncak Jaya, in West Papua, Indonesia.
“This mountain presented physical challenges as it is a wall to climb, and also contains a suspension bridge crossing; we climbed part of it in the rain. But actually the geopolitical tension in the area added additional stress to this project,” he said.
Herrera completed the challenge of the seven summits: Mount Everest, eight thousand 848 meters (m) above sea level (Asia); Aconcagua, six thousand 962 m (South America); Denali six thousand 194 m (North America) and Kilimanjaro, five thousand 895 m (Africa).
