Cuban president congratulates armed forces on their 65th anniversary

Havana, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, voiced his gratitude on Wednesday to the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) for all the endeavors they have taken on and congratulated its members, on the 65th anniversary of the military institution.

In his X profile, the head of State noted that MINFAR, “where the forces of the uniformed people are organized,” was founded by very young then, and already Commander Raúl Castro Ruz, as its minister, and has been and still stands as a fundamental force in the face of all challenges.

On October 16, 1959, the new Council of Ministers passed Law 599 to dissolve the Ministry of National Defense, subsequently giving clearance to Law 600 in lieu, through which the MINFAR was created with the appointment of Commander Raúl Castro as its minister

The institution directs, executes and controls the training of Cuban citizens for the country’s defense, engages in the protection of the entire national territory, including the territorial sea waters and the airspace that extends over them, and is responsible for relevant training for and execution of the armed struggle.
