Colombia to work to join India with Latin America and Caribbean

New Delhi, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) Colombia will take over the presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in 2025 with a broad and multilateral vision, including joint work with India, said Colombian Deputy Foreign Minister Jorge Rojas. Rojas, who is visiting New Delhi, told Prensa Latina that the government of President Gustavo Petro is exploring the possibility of holding a summit between the CELAC nations and India.

That is a recognition of what India means, due to its leadership, and its ability to convene the South-South community, he stressed.

The Colombian deputy foreign minister stated that his government is therefore interested in developing this initiative in New Delhi when Colombia assumes the presidency pro tempore (of CELAC), and hopes that this will happen for the better of the two regions of Latin America, the Caribbean and the country.

He underscored that it is essential not only to recognize each other from the South, the regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, but also to develop the capacity to face monumental challenges such as climate change.
