Haitian collectors on strike set truce until December

Port-au-Prince, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) The employees of the Haitian Taxes General Management (DGI), on strike since September 23 fixed, a truce until December 31, but they maintain firm their demands to the government, local press reported today.

This truce should be limited to waiting for the signature of a document dealing with the conditions of this pause, but after this period, if the promises made are not fulfilled, we will announce the resumption of the strike”, a statement from the DGI workers underlines.

During the talks, it was agreed to grant them a bonus of 50 thousand gourdes (US$378.78) each quarter and an amount of 25 thousand gourdes (US$189.39) each month, on the debit card of a fund provided for in the DGI budget.

The protagonists of the work stoppage maintain firm their demands focused on a salary adjustment, the granting of the debit card, training for future civil servants, medical insurance and the dismissal of the DGI’s top official, Jean Emmanuel Casséus.

The general strike is not only in the capital, but also in the provincial cities, according to the digital newspaper Le Facteur Haiti.

The strikers notified their displeasure to the Taxes General Management, so that it could inform the higher level of the decision to carry out the strike.

Neither the Prime Minister, Garry Conille, nor the Ministry of Finance made any pronouncement on the demands of the employees.
