A statement released on the official website of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, indicates that, in the conversation between the two leaders held the day before, Meloni reiterated to Netanyahu that it is unacceptable that the bases of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (Unifil), be the target of fire from the Israeli army.
The head of government reaffirmed that this UN mission, in which some 1,200 Italian troops participate, acts according to the mandate of the Security Council, to contribute to regional stability. She stressed on the absolute necessity in guaranteeing the safety of these personnel.
The Prime Minister renewed Italy’s commitment in this regard, and reassured her conviction that “through the full implementation of Resolution 1701 we can contribute to the stabilization of the Israeli-Lebanese border and guarantee the return of all displaced persons”, the note underlined.
She also emphasized the urgency of working on de-escalatin at the regional level, and renewed “Italy’s full readiness, also as the rotating Presidency of the Group of Seven (G7), to work in this direction”.
