The debate inside and outside the country changed when it became known that the authorities of the neighboring nation broke a record by expelling 11,177 Haitians from their country in a week.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Dominican government to respect the rights of children in the mass deportation plan.

“The inalienable rights of all children, women and men who are the subject of this unfortunate decision must be respected, in accordance with the international treaties and agreements that govern this matter,” the ministries’ note stressed.
