The decision was made as a commitment to improve environmental quality and public health in the city, Asep Kuswanto, director of the Jakarta Environment Office, explained.
Such a policy responds to Jakarta’s Regional Regulation No. 1/2024 concerning Regional Taxes and Levies, Kuswanto stated.
This s not a new endevor altogether, as relevant policies have long been implemented by companies in Indonesia, where commercial areas must be involved in waste management.
Under this regulation, the waste disposal service levy in Jakarta will be linked to the electricity needed dispose of garbage.
