The campaign is aimed at infants born in 2022, from the age of two onwards, Lena López, director of the National Immunization Program of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, explained to Granma newspaper.
The immunization, which will be implemented at all vaccination centers in different health areas of the national territory, will be extended until December 31.
Experts who developed the vaccine at the Finlay Vaccine Institute, explained that it will protect infants against seven of the most infectious and prevalent serotypes of the pneumococcus bacteria, which causes most pneumonia and bacterial meningitis in children,
It will also shield them against other bloodstream infections, such as acute otitis media, sinusitis and bronchitis.
