The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, spearheaded the beginning of the strategy, which in the first 24 hours arrested 148 persons associated with organized crime.
“This plan aims to free Panama from gangs. We will go house by house, farm by farm, or wherever the gang members are hiding, to take them to their rightful place: the prison,” said the president.
As explained by the head of the Republic, at an event at the National Police, this program will involve about one 1032 officers in the main conflict points such as the province of Colón (Caribe), one of the most dangerous; Panama West (next to the capital), the district of San Miguelito (a suburb with high levels of insecurity), the Canal area and other popular locations close to the metropolitan city.
“All this has a single purpose: that every Panamanian worker feels that peace and security are returning. The challenge is great, there were many years of lack of leadership giving free rein to organized crime throughout the country,” the President stressed.
