Irregular migration centers Panama-Colombia public consultations

Panama City, Oct 12 ( Prensa Latina) Irregular migration was the focus of the Fourth Meeting of the Public Consultation Mechanism between Panama and Colombia.

An official report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that this was reaffirmed by Deputy Foreign Ministers Carlos Ruiz-Hernández and his visitor Jorge Rojas, after touring reception centers for illegal travelers in Lajas Blancas and Bajo Chiquito, in the border forest of Darién.

Both Ruiz-Hernández and Rojas agreed on the importance of protecting the Darien and promoting sustainable border development.

They also addressed issues of bilateral interest such as security, migration, conservation of protected areas and the integration of border communities, thus strengthening 100 years of diplomatic relations, according to the statement.

In addition, they reiterated their commitment to cooperate in multilateral forums, highlighting Panama’s role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council since January 2025; and supporting Colombia’s candidacy for the period 2026-2027.
