The political coalition Pacto Histórico called on citizens to take to the streets during this day. On social media, the coalition also appealed on the population of the countryside and cities to join the mobilization under the theme “March Against the Coup”.
In Bogotá, the call is to concentrate on the central Plaza Bolivar starting at 10:30 (local time), where there will be demonstrations in support of the nation’s first left-wing government.
It is expected that the call will be joined by various social and trade union movements that rejected the accusation by the CNE against the president for allegedly violating the funding limits of his election campaign in 2022.
These associations include the National Unitary Command, made up of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores de Colombia, the General Confederation of Labour, as well as the Confederation of Pensioners of Colombia and the Democratic Confederation of Pensioners.
Fecode, the Colombian Federation of Educators, also declared itself on alert as a sign of repudiation of the CNE’s decision and reiterated its support for a social mobilization, pointing out that a coup d’état is underway.
Other organizations that showed their solidarity with the president are the Minga del Suroccidente, which spoke at the Permanent Assembly, and the Afro-Colombian National Peace Council.
