The ceremony will take place in the Garden City I project, José Walter neighborhood, where 1,296 families will receive the keys to their new homes.

Besides Lula, the ceremony will be attended by Governor Elmano de Freitas and the Ministers of Cities, Jader Hijo, of Education, Camilo Santana, and of the Civil House, Rui Costa.

The delivery of the apartments also includes a second space of the Zona Viva initiative, which will have a library built based on a suggestion of the head of state.

Minha Casa, Minha Vida, created by the Brazilian government in 2009, aims to facilitate access to housing for low and middle-income families.

The program is one of the main public housing policies of Brazil and seeks to reduce the housing deficit, promote social inclusion and improve the living conditions of the population.

At least about 300 thousand Brazilians currently live homeless in the country, a number that represents an increase of 38 percent compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic period of Covid-19.
