Without mentioning Israel’s responsibility for the aggression, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed concern about the deteriorating situation along the so-called Blue Line.
Diplomatic sources confirmed that the Indian government was closely monitoring the situation.
In addition to demanding respect for the inviolability of UN premises, the MEA adopted appropriate measures to ensure the peacekeepers’ safety and their mandate’s sanctity.
UNIFIL informed this Friday that its base in Naqoura had been subjected to frequent Israeli attacks and shelling. Two peacekeepers were injured after an Israeli Merkava tank fired toward the headquarters’ observation tower.
In its statement, the UN mission reminded the Israeli army and all parties concerned of their obligations to ensure the safety of UN personnel and their property.
