At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, the First Magistrate’s Criminal Court took this decision in accordance with the provisions of the law on the regulation of publications made on the Internet and the fight against crimes committed through these publications, Minister of Justice Yilmaz Tunç, said.

We are determined to protect our young people and children, the guarantor of our future, from harmful and criminal posts on social media and the Internet. We will never allow attempts to shake the foundations of our social structure, Tunç clarified in a message via X.

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), the country’s technology regulator, also notified the ban on access to that website.

This decision comes after two women were allegedly killed by a 19-year-old boy in early October. Following the incident, some Discord users praised the assassination, which sparked public outrage and criticism of the platform.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya assured that the government will not show mercy to those who try to poison society, especially children and young people, with perverted thoughts on social media.

On Tuesday, Russia’s communications regulator also blocked Discord for violating the country’s law, after previously fining the company for failing to remove banned content.
