Syria and UN join hands to assist Lebanese displaced by war

Damascus, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) President Bashar Al-Assad and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi today focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between Damascus and the world organization to assist Lebanese citizens displaced by war.

Al-Assad stressed at the meeting the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in the entire region due to the Israeli aggression, and voiced his government’s readiness to joint international efforts to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, despite all the difficulties and challenges Syria is facing.

In turn, the UN High Commissioner praised the measures taken by the Syrian government to facilitate the entry of displaced persons at the border crossings, and the existing coordination and cooperation with all international agencies present at the border.

The continuation of this cooperation is important to overcome any barriers that may hinder humanitarian efforts, he assured.

Grandi also met with Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh, with whom he discussed the urgent humanitarian response to Lebanese arriving in Syria as a result of the Israeli aggression.

On the other hand, the two sides emphasized the importance of intensifying and expanding early recovery projects, which will enable Syrian refugees to return to their areas of origin and enjoy basic services.
