The scandal involving the institution that supports scholarships grants to the most talented and vulnerable students followed dozens of complaints for squandering resources, exerting political patronage and mishandling of funds allocated by the State.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, irregularities are linked to granting financial aid in the period from January through June 2024.
The Prosecutor’s Office is currently engaged in two other enquiries seeking to clarify events at Ifarhu from 2019 and 2022, related to granting financial support to the children of politicians and businessmen who are wealthy enough to finance their studies.
Last Monday, Ifarhu’s director, Jaime Díaz, denounced in a press conference that some aids granted during the past administration (2019-2024) did not comply with the law.
