Lebanon stresses continuity of efforts to stop Israeli aggression

Beirut, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon's acting Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, today highlighted the continuity of Arab and international efforts to stop the Israeli aggression, which has already killed more than 2,000 people since October 2023.

In a message on the Lebanese government’s X account, Mikati stressed that Israeli intransigence and ‘the pursuit of what the enemy considers gains and victories still hinder the success of these efforts’.

The cabinet chief said the necessary contacts continue in order to reach a cease-fire for a specific period with the aim of discussing the basic political steps, the most important of which is the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and compelling the Israeli enemy to abide by it.

The highest authority of the Executive indicated that the displacement crisis from areas exposed to Israeli bombardment represents an additional element of pressure and ‘an emergency issue for which the government mobilized all its energies and agencies’.

The ministerial committee for this dossier works according to a specific agreed mechanism to prevent violations and ensure the delivery of aid to those in need, he said.

At the same time, he noted that the large scale of displaced people, its acceleration and increasing number is a challenge, but ‘we will overcome it with our solidarity and unity’.

He expressed his satisfaction and gratitude to all the countries and organizations that provided political, humanitarian and moral support to overcome this crisis.

During the day, four people were killed and 10 others wounded in a new Israeli attack on a center for war displaced persons in the town of Wardanieh in Mount Lebanon.

In its hostility against health workers and Civil Defense teams, two paramedics were killed by an Israeli air raid on an emergency medical center in the Wadi Jilou village in the south of the country.

Until yesterday, the Lebanese Public Health Ministry counted 2,119 dead and 10,19 injured since the beginning of the Israeli aggression a year ago.
