Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reiterated on Tuesday the need for an immediate and urgent ceasefire in both territories, and called on all parties to exercise wisdom and responsibility, said a statement from his office on Wednesday.
During a telephone talk with his Cypriot counterpart, Nikos Christodoulides, the president warned of the serious impact of the escalation of violence in the region.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made a similar statement in a telephone conversation yesterday with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Abdelatty stressed the importance of empowering Lebanese national institutions, especially the army, to ensure the country’s stability, and reaffirmed Egypt’s willingness to offer political and humanitarian support to Lebanon.
Abdelatty, who also spoke with the French president’s special envoy to Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, reaffirmed Egypt’s firm rejection of any violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, which has been suffering a ground invasion since the beginning of the month.
The foreign minister also spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to whom he reiterated the need to end Israeli attacks against its neighbors.
Abdelatty also emphasized on the need to intensify the delivery of humanitarian aid to Lebanon and Gaza.
