Vietnamese PM travels to Laos to participate in ASEAN Summits

Hanoi, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh traveled to Laos to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, which will run until next Friday.

“ASEAN: Improving connectivity and resilience” will be the theme around which more than 20 scheduled activities will be developed. Around two thousand delegates from the member states of the bloc, Timor Leste and partner countries of the group will take part.

In addition to this event, during these four days, the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit will be held, an opportunity for dialogues between the leaders of the nations and representatives of the Interparliamentary Assembly, the Business Advisory Council of the Association and youth, and the second Summit of the Asia Zero Emissions Community.

According to the organizers, more than 80 documents are expected to be submitted for approval, focusing on areas of interest such as responding to climate change, developing sustainable agriculture, strengthening supply chains, combating cybercrime and artificial intelligence.

Preparations for the 44th and 45th Summits were assessed during Sunday’s ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting in Vientiane, as well as the implementation of the bloc’s cooperation initiatives and priorities for the current year. The construction of the regional Community Vision for 2045, the roadmap to help Timor Leste become a full member of the association and the strengthening of ASEAN’s foreign relations, among other issues of common interest, were also discussed.

The meeting of foreign ministers of the grouping, the 28th session of the ASEAN Political and Security Community Council and the 35th session of its Coordination Council are scheduled for today, Monday. In addition, the Third Youth Dialogue will continue under the theme “Improving comprehensive and resilient support for sustainable development of ASEAN youth.”

The forum, inaugurated on Tuesday by the Secretary-General of the Lao Youth Union, Monxay Laomuaxong, will examine the ASEAN Youth Development Index, in line with the development strategy, outlined by each member state. It will also discuss the fulfillment of the objectives and action plans proposed in the 2023 Youth Dialogue, which had set health and well-being, education, employment, entrepreneurship, social protection and youth participation in various sectors as key areas of focus.
