Damaged lane on stretch of road to the Atlantic opened in Guatemala

Guatemala, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) The General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety (PROVIAL) of Guatemala on Monday informed that a lane had been opened at kilometer 61 of the road to the Atlantic, after massive landslides blocked the path.

The department, attached to the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (MINCIVI) explained that it is regulating the passage of vehicles on both roads on 20-minute intervals in that section of the department of El Progreso.

According to videos on social networks, the complications to circulate on the road continue, since the four lanes were all covered by debris which blocked traffic completely, creating long lines of vehicles.

Specialized brigades from MINCIVI and the Army Corps of Engineers are working in the area to remove the earth, trees and rocks that fell off and covered the asphalt.

However, the risk of collapse continues and the imminent rain makes work and the passage of vehicles dangerous, Communications Ministry Félix Alvarado said.
