Coming elections’ turnout is in decline

Montevideo, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The coming elections’ turnout on October 27 is in decline, not only at the consultation, but also at the national ballot, a survey revealed on Sunday.

On October 27, Uruguayans will vote for the plebiscite on nighttime police raids in homes, a procedure which is currently not allowed by the Constitution.

The constitutional reform is a claim that comes from the parties that give life to the Government coalition and the Interior Ministry, under the argument that they will contribute to the fight against crime and in particular drug trafficking.

Nonetheless, since May this consultation at the polls shows a drop in support of 14 percent, while the detractors increased 11 percent, according to a poll by the consulting firm Cifra. Therefore, the parties of the Government coalition requested President Luis Lacalle Pou a radio and television channel to promote the constitutional change.

This request comes after the PIT-CNT union and the pro-social security plebiscite commission made a similar exhortation to the president, who past week led a press conference to call on Uruguayans not to vote for this proposal.
