Russian air defense intercepts 18 Ukranian drones

Moscow, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) Eighteen Ukrainian drones were intercepted in southwestern Russia, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on Friday.

A new attempt by the Ukrainian military to stage a terrorist attack on facilities on Russian territory was thwarted, the military informed on its official Telegram channel, without specifying the targets of the attack.

The press release noted that the anti-aircraft defense destroyed six aircraft over the region Belgorod, six more over Voronezh, five unmanned aerial vehicles over the Sea of Azov and one over Rostov.

Earlier on Friday, Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev reported a fire at an oil terminal in the Anna district. According to the official, an empty tank caught fire after fragments of a downed drone fell on the premises.

On February 24, 2022, Russia began a special military operation in Ukraine, the objectives of which, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, are to protect the population from “genocide by the government in Kiev.”

It also seeks to address the national security risks posed by the advance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to the east.
