The president of the National and International Teamsters Association, Hernán Mendieta, specified that the 24-hour strike was agreed upon by 90 percent of the union’s groups, to be eventually joined by the Association of Grocers and other organizations.

In his words, the code lessens the drastic nature of the fight against organized crime, by establishing greater requirements for the definition of a criminal group and weakening the elements of surprise on raids on suspects.
The Government has forwarded a bill to exact heavier prison sentences for roadblocks and obstruction of public services, while pushing another to try at military courts the crimes committed by military and police officers during states of emergency, like the ones currently in force in 14 municipalities of Lima.
