CEO of Ethiopia’s flag carrier, Mesfin Tassew, told the Ethiopian News Agency said the new facility will help improve connections for transit passengers through Addis Ababa and within Africa, in line with the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

It will therefore boost air transport in Africa and Ethiopia, he emphasized.

Tassew indicated that currently Ethiopia Airlines keeps is status as main continental air carrier and they want to maintain that leadership with the improvement of services and through partnerships with similar African companies.

He specified that they are currently flying to 139 cities around the world, and are intent on increasing international destinations to 207 by 2035.

“Which means we have to add new destinations every year until we get there.”

In doing so, we want to improve our reach and connectivity using Addis Ababa as a hub,’ he explained.

Ethiopian Airlines Group signed a technical advisory and consultancy contract with Dar Al-Handasah Consultancy (Shair and Partners), a partner of world-renowned British architectural firm Zaha Hadid, to embark on the design and supervision of a mega airport city in Abusera, Bishoftu city.
