Nepal gets emergency aid from China’s Red Cross

Kathmandu, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal has received 100 thousand dollars as a contribution from China’s Red Cross for the victims of recent flash floods and landslides, which have so far left over 200 dead.

At the handover ceremony, the Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, assured that his government will continue to support the recovery efforts from the natural disasters, prompted by more than 24 hours of heavy rains.

The diplomat also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, the floods and landslides in different parts of the country have so far caused 233 deaths, 169 injured and 22 missing.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rishiram Tiwari, pointed out that 17,120 people have been rescued.

He pointed out that the government is giving high priority to rescue and relief work.

At the same time, recue groups are engaged in repairing the roads affected by the disaster and trying their best to put the means of transport back into operation, he added.

The Meteorological Division reported that Kathmandu has been under 239.7 millimeters of rain in just over 24 hours last weekend, the highest rainfall since records began in 1970.
