The statement, quoted by local media, was forwarded by Syria’s permanent representative at the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Haider Ali Ahmed, during a debate on the human rights situation in Palestine, within the framework of the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Undoubtedly, the continuation of Israel’s occupation, genocide, crimes against humanity and aggression against countries in the region would lead to a dangerous escalation whose consequences cannot be predicted, Ahmed added.
He noted that achieving stability and security in the region and stopping the shedding of innocent blood does not require much research and analysis. There is a clear path that everyone knows, and that is to end the occupation and halting the aggression against the peoples and countries of the region, the diplomat pointed out.
Ahmed said that Zionist aggression brings the region to the brink of a dangerous escalation and confrontation whose consequences cannot be predicted and with catastrophic effects on peace and security in the region and beyond.
The Syrian diplomat stated that the hypocrisy and double standards by some Western countries, especially the United States, have reached such a point in the Human Rights Council that it is very difficult to maintain what remains of its credibility.
The past few weeks have been marked by statements by these countries that falsely and slanderously present themselves as human rights advocates, while providing support and protection to the occupying power, so it can continue with its genocide of the Palestinian people, in a development unprecedented in history, Ahmed denounced.
He added that it is shameful that despite the magnitude of Israel’s crimes for more than 76 years, Israeli war criminals are still outside the circle of accountability, and that the blood of 42,000 innocent Palestinians in Gaza is still not enough for the United States to lift the immunity and umbrella it offers to Israel.
