The congratulatory speech to the players was delivered by member of the Political Bureau of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), vice chairman of the State Affairs Committee and State Sports Leading Committee Kim Tok Hun.

Speaking on behalf of the girls, forward Choe Il Son, who won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at the World Cup, expressed the will of the team and their coaches to win new victories for the country.

In the qualifying phase of the tournament, held in Colombia, the DPRK team defeated Argentina 6-2, Costa Rica 9-0, the Netherlands 2-0 and Austria 5-2.

On an unstoppable march to the title, third in events of this nature, they defeated Brazil, the United States and Japan without allowing any goals, scoring 25 goals in seven matches and conceding only four.

Pyongyang gave a warm welcome to the team, which was also received by WPK Secretary General and Chairman of the State Affairs Committee Kim Jong Un.

“You won the medals of dignity and responded to the hopes of the country and the people with courage, perseverance and excellence,” the top leader of the country said.
