Russia prepared for a long-term standoff with the US

Moscow, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Russia has no illusions about the prospects of improving relations with the United States and is prepared for a long standoff with Washington, declared Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, the TASS agency reported.

“I believe that we should not get our hopes up, even in the wake of the upcoming US presidential elections on November 5th, given the bipartisan anti-Russian consensus that has emerged in the United States,” the diplomat added.

Ryabkov also highlighted that the issue was reviewed with the deputies of the State Duma (Lower House of the Russian parliament), and points of view were exchanged on the prospects for improving relations with the United States.

“Without a doubt, we must prepare for a long standoff with the United States. We are prepared for it in every way,” the diplomat said. “In addition, we are sending all warning signals to our adversary so that he does not underestimate our determination,” he concluded.
