From the Ain al-Tineh Palace, seat of the presidency of the Parliament, the head of the acting Government stressed the importance of the unity of the Lebanese people in the face of the Israeli attacks and national solidarity.
Together with the head of the unicameral legislature, Nabih Berri, and the former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, the head of the executive praised the support of the citizens in welcoming displaced families from the south, the southern suburb of Beirut and the Bekaa, as well as the Government’s efforts in this field.
After discussing the complex conditions the nation is going through, Mikati called on the international community to “assume its moral and legal responsibilities and respond to the requirements of the support plan presented by the Government’s emergency committee as soon as possible.”
In light of the Israeli enemy’s insistence on prolonging the aggression, the prime minister reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to the call issued at meetings held during the UN General Assembly by the United States, France, the European Union, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Italy.
Mikati urged an immediate ceasefire and the initiation of the measures with which the Lebanese Government announced its commitment to pursue Security Council Resolution 1701, and to send the army to the southern area of the Litani to carry out its full tasks in coordination with the peacekeeping forces.
