Iran advocates proportional armed response to Israel at UN

United Nations, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saied Iravani, advocated Wednesday his country's proportional response “to Israel's continuous aggressive terrorist actions for the last two months.”

On an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, the representative called the recent actions against Tel Aviv “necessary to restore balance and deterrence.”

“Experience has shown that Israel only understands the language of force,” the diplomat noted, warning that Tel Aviv “sees restraint not as a gesture of goodwill, but as a weakness to exploit.”

Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres criticized the use of violence throughout the region by all sides: from the West Bank or the streets of Israel, to the deadly attack on Jaffa on Tuesday.

Guterres denounced the Israeli military campaign in Gaza, which he deemed the deadliest and most destructive he had seen during his seven-year tenure as head of the UN.

“The suffering endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza is beyond imagination,” he added.

The UN senior representative called for “a halt to the sickening cycle of escalation after escalation that is driving the people of the Middle East straight over the cliff.”

On the other hand, Al-Sayyid Hadi Hashim, Lebanon’s Chargé d’Affaires denied that Israeli military operations are having a limited impact.

The recent attack on the village of Ain al-Delb is the best proof of that, when an Israeli raid on Sept. 29 targeted a residential building that claimed 71 lives, including dozens of women and children, buried in a mass grave, he asserted.
