DRC and Ugandan Armed Forces coordinate actions against rebels

Kinshasa, Oct 2 (Latin Press) Representatives of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Ugandan Defence Forces (UPDF) are discussing new strategies to deal with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.

The meeting is taking place in Fort Portal, Uganda, since Monday, September 30, and both sides are expected to conclude assessments on joint military operations on Wednesday, to deal a major blow to the ADF that have killed numerous civilians in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, Radio Okapi reported.

General Bruno Mandevu, commander of operations Sokola 1 Grand Nord, and Nyembo Abdallah, commander of the operational sector in Ituri, are representing the DRC army at the meeting, while on the Ugandan side the delegation is led by General Kayanja Muhanga, commander of the UPDF.

Reports from civil society and military sources indicate that the ADF is seeking to regroup near the Asefu-Ituri River, as well as in the north of Lolwa and Bahaha; while another group was reported in the Bapere sector, in Lubero territory.

The ADF, a group linked to the Islamic State, has left a trail of death in Ituri and more recently has shifted its activities to North Kivu province.

In June alone, the ADF killed 272 civilians, according to UN figures.
