Cuba voices concern over escalation of violence in the Middle East

Havana, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Foreign Ministry is highly concerned as it closely watches over the events in the Middle East, prompted by Israel's aggressive policy, which relies on the military, logistical and political support of the Government of the United States.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry warned that these actions have led to a dangerous escalation, further compromising regional stability and security and provoking a response from Iran.

It pointed out that almost a year after the Zionists started to commit genocide against the Palestinian people, the Israeli Government, instead of seeking a negotiated solution that guarantees a ceasefire, has attacked and intensified its irresponsible aggression against Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.

According to the statement, this behavior by Israel demonstrates its absolute disregard for the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

“The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Cuba has been warning of the danger of further escalation in the Middle East, as a result of these actions and the aggressiveness and impunity with which Israel acts,” the text stressed.

It also ratified Cuba’s position of solidarity with the nations attacked by Israel and called for peace and negotiations leading to an immediate ceasefire, to prevent further escalation of a conflict that has already cost the lives of tens of thousands of people.

“We emphasize our commitment to justice and International Law,” the Foreign Ministry stressed, while advocating full UN membership for Palestine.

“We reiterate that peace will only be possible in the Middle East through a comprehensive, lasting and just solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, including the creation of a sovereign and independent Palestinian State on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the statement stressed.
