Chilean musician’s symphony to be premiered in Cuba

Santiago, Chile, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) “Fénix (Phoenix)”, a symphonic piece by Chilean musician Cristian Lazo Remedi, is one of the five musical works awarded by Ibermúsicas that will be premiered by the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, its composer confirmed on Wednesday.

Last year, Lazo Remedi, who has worked for more than a decade as a pianist and arranger for the choir of the Metropolitan Technological University, received one of the awards from the contest that seeks to expand the Ibero-American repertoire in the symphonic field.

The piece for large orchestra was also selected to participate in the New England Philharmonic New Music Readings in Boston, United States.

“Phoenix refers to fire, under the creative impulse of my recurring obsession with mythological birds in my imagination,” the composer said.

He added that it can also be understood as an autobiographical reference, since it marks the beginning of a new stage in his musical career.

Phoenix will be premiered on October 13 at the National Theater of Cuba by the Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Igor Corcuera Cáceres.

Four other works awarded by Ibermúsicas will also be performed: Canto del Cotopaxi, by David Alejandro Meneses (Ecuador); Cruces, by Samuel Robles (Panama); El Enigma Cuántico, by David Aguilar (Peru); and Antifonía Fractal, by David Pedroza (Venezuela).

The Ibermúsicas Ibero-American Music Promotion Program was approved at the 21st Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Asunción, Paraguay, in November 2011.
