According to the TV Yumurí site, the research on refrigerant gases known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) is used primarily for the refrigeration and aerosol industry and are capable of destroying ozone molecules in the stratosphere.
The study in question is being carried out in coordination with the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) and after its completion in Matanzas it will be extended to other Cuban provinces.
The media outlet details that among the objectives of the research is to achieve a strategy to reduce these undesirable gases and to enable the entry of environmentally friendly technologies into the country.
Since 1987, the Montreal Protocol has promoted the protection of the ozone layer by eliminating CFCs, substances derived from saturated hydrocarbons, and hydro-chlorofluorocarbons, compounds formed by hydrogen, fluorine, and carbon atoms.
