According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the determination to return the Brazilians came from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Coordinated by the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defense, the operation will be scheduled to take place in the next few days, after assessing the security conditions for the flight.
The initial FAB program envisages the take-off from the airport of Beirut, the Lebanese capital, which is still open.
“The Embassy in Lebanon is taking the necessary measures to make the operation possible, in permanent contact with the Brazilian community and in close coordination with the local authorities,” the Foreign Ministry indicated.
Israeli bombings in Lebanon last week killed two Brazilian teenagers. Currently, the largest community of Brazilians in the Middle East is in Lebanon. In total, 21 000 live in that country.
