Cuba and China eye expanding scientific exchanges

Havana, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and China today advocated the expansion of scientific and innovative cooperation, within the framework of the 13th Joint Commission, which is meeting today.

Accordingly, the Vice Prime Minister of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas, met with the Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China, Long Teng, to discus future joint projects, as well as ways to develop branches such as nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.

They also dealt with the possibility of expanding agreements in various sectors related to health, and the exchange of students and professionals from various branches.

Cabrisas highlighted the excellent relations that Cuba maintains with China and the results obtained after fruitful years of cooperation.

He also thanked China for its support for the development of science and technology in the Caribbean nation.

For his part, Teng referred to Cuba’s achievements in technology and innovation, despite the blockade imposed by the United States government.

Meanwhile, the Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Eduardo Martínez, referred to the importance of implementing collaborations in the future in areas such as nanosciences and the application of technology for food production.

China has about 10 laboratories for scientific development, which are part of the Silk Road initiative. Two of such centers were jointly developed with Cuba.

35 years ago, China and Cuba formalized cooperation in science, technology and innovation projects, and this 13th Joint Commission is the result of years of cooperation.

Before the meeting on Monday, senior Chinese and Cuban officials toured several institutions such as the Center for Molecular Immunology, the Center for Advanced Studies and the Center for Neurosciences in Cuba.
