According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the most important lifestyle risk factors for heart disease and stroke, are unhealthy eating, physical inactivity, tobacco use and harmful drinking.
“It has been shown that giving up smoking, reducing salt and increasing fruit and vegetable intake, regular physical activity and not drinking alcoholic beverages with harmful consequences reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease,” the health agency says.
Today, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and the figure will rise to 23 million by 2030, which is why, according to the WHO, it is necessary to avoid disorders such as overweight and obesity to avoid greater risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure and other complications. To this end, specialists constantly advocate avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, which has become a cardiovascular risk factor with as significant an impact as smoking or high cholesterol.
