Cuba, China celebrate diplomatic ties focused on further cooperation

Beijing, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and China are celebrating today the 64th anniversary of their diplomatic relations focused on further strengthening multi-sectoral cooperation and mutual political trust.

On this date, the Special Representative of the Government of China for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs, Qiu Xiaoqi, stressed that bilateral ties are “a good example of solidarity cooperation between socialist countries and sincere mutual support between developing nations”.

“China will continue to assert justice in favor of Cuba in international arenas, supporting Cuba in defending the country’s sovereignty and dignity, and opposing the blockade and sanctions imposed by the United States,” he added.

The official highlighted the recent high-level meetings between representatives of each nation, as well as the consensus reached between Presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel and Xi Jinping.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, assured that the two countries cooperate in all spheres, especially in priority sectors such as new energies, food production and infocommunications.

From Cuba, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said on Friday that the vision of Presidents Xi Jinping and Miguel Diaz-Canel to work for a community of shared future Cuba-China, calls for greater efforts as socialist countries for bilateral integration and in facing complex global challenges.

Havana and Beijing are celebrating 64 years of diplomatic ties, although historical links date back to the 19th century when the first Chinese arrived in Cuba. On September 2, 1960, in front of more than one million Cubans, Fidel Castro urged to break relations with the Taiwanese government to establish diplomatic ties with Mao Zedong’s People’s Republic of China.

On September 28, Cuba became the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish such ties with the new China, paving the way for relations between Beijing and the rest of nations in the region.
