Cuba and Vietnam deepened historic ties of brotherhood

Havana, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and Vietnam deepened their historic relations of friendship and cooperation, during the week that ends today, with the state visit to this Caribbean country of the president of that Asian nation, To Lam.

Both countries issued an 18-point Joint Declaration on strengthening traditional solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation in the new period.

The Vietnamese dignitary was awarded the José Martí Order, the country’s highest decoration, and presided, together with his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, the signing of seven agreements to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.

To Lam, who is also secretary general of the Vietnamese Communist Party, completed from September 25 to 27 an intense agenda that included talks with the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro, and other political personalities of the island.

These meetings reaffirmed the common will to deepen the close ties of friendship and cooperation between both peoples, communist parties and governments, which will be 65 years old in 2025.

Accompanied by the Cuban head of State, To Lam toured the Marie l Special Development Zone (45 kilometers west of Havana) where Vietnam is the second country in number of investment projects, including the ViMariel Industrial Park.

The Vietnamese president also met during his stay with the president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP, Parliament), Esteban Lazo, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, among other high authorities.

Before concluding his state visit, To Lam paid tribute to his nation’s independence hero Ho Chi Minh, and presented the Cuban youth with the Order of Friendship, in an act of solidarity with his country presided over by Miguel Díaz-Canel, at the National Hotel of Cuba in the capital.
