International trade union denounces Israel for wage theft

Brussels, 27 Seo (Prensa Latina) International trade union confederations today denounced before the ILO a group of violations committed by the Israeli government, which they described as generalized wage theft.

The 10 organizations told the International Labor Organization (ILO) that thousands of Palestinians are affected by the non-payment of wages following the outbreak of the current war in Gaza, which denotes “flagrant violations of the ILO Wage Protection Convention”.

More than 200,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza employed in Israel lost their wages “due to the suspension of work permits and the unilateral termination of their contracts” following the outbreak of the conflict in October last year, said the statement.

“They have not been paid for work performed before October 7, nor have they been paid any wages since then,” the statement of the trade union organizations sustains.

As the text recalls, ILO conventions are binding legal instruments and Israel ratified the one concerning the protection of wages in 1959.

They therefore demand that the Israeli authorities repair and remedy these abuses, says the statement of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
