The Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park, venue of the festival, will also host other distinguished artists of this genre on the continent such as Tito Nieves from Puerto Rico, Salserín from Venezuela, and a large representation of Colombian musicians such as Guayacán Orquesta and Son Mujeres.
The source praised the performance of the Cuban musicians and defined the Manzanillo Original Orchestra as one of the most iconic groups of the island’s music, responsible for hits such as Mi sombrero de Yarey and El cintura del taxi.
He also recognized Alaín Pérez’s talent, describing him as an outstanding bassist, singer and composer who fuses genres such as jazz and son in songs like La sandunguita and El cuento de la buena pipa. According to information released by the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, the Festival will take place this year under the motto “The other neighborhood of salsa: the relationship of music with the city.”
Last year, some 170 thousand people attended the event that, throughout its 24 editions, aims to fuse dance, music and the talent of artists both national and international.
The director of the District Institute of the Arts (Idartes) María Claudia Parias said that the festival is a witness to the evolution of salsa in Colombia and offers a stage for thousands of artists and dancers to connect with the public in a unique way.
This event is part of a program designed by the authorities of the capital called Festivales al Parque de Bogotá, which hosts nine cultural events throughout the year and thanks to which renowned artists in diverse genres such as jazz, rock, gospel, hip hop and vallenato, among others, are performed.
