Through its social networks, the body detailed that prior to the vote, the vice president of the Foreign Relations Commission, Honduran deputy Engels Pineda, presented a report on the request submitted.
According to local newspaper Prensa Libre, 76 of the 120 members of Parlacen recently signed the petition for the incorporation of Russia.
The request to add the Eurasian nation to the Parliament was led by Nicaraguan deputy Guillermo Daniel Ortega.
The arguments for the decision were that Russia’s status, as a permanent observer, seeks to create the conditions to further strengthen ties of friendship, cooperation and collaboration.
They also recognized solid foundations between the State Duma and Parlacen through diplomatic relations and that the initiative complies with all the political and cooperation objectives established in the internal rules of procedure.
Russia, upon being admitted, expressed its commitment to work in the permanent commissions and other activities and events, in addition to cooperation and donations to the organization, the newspaper stated.
