Mujica pending elections in Uruguay despite health problems

Montevideo, Sep 25 (Prensa Latina) The former Uruguayan President José Mujica is keeping an eye on the election campaign despite his health problems, according to statements made by his wife, former Vice President Lucia Topolansky, which transcended today.

Topolanksy said that the former president continues to feed himself through a gastric tube. “It’s hard to get used to that.”

Mujica was discharged from hospital on September 13 after being hospitalized for several days due to difficulties in feeding himself orally.

This is a consequence of fibrosis in his esophagus as a result of radiotherapy treatment for cancer.

“Every day he is taking a little step further,” said the companion of the 89-year-old veteran political leader.

“I am hopeful that little by little, with this diet, he will recover all the strength he has lost,” she added.

José Mujica can now drink tea normally and is expected to improve as he incorporates other foods, she said.

Topolansky explained that both have been following the electoral campaign for the October 27 elections.
